Sandra May Memorial Page

Died July 18th, 2003

This page is dedicated to the late Sandra May by Deborah Gibson.   She was strong, loving, a great friend, wife, daughter, mother, shag instructor, sister by association and dancer.

My life will never be the same without you Sandra.

I miss you so much!!

Wes & Sandra gave both private and group lessons. In addition, Wes and Sandra were also available for group, demonstrations, business functions.

Group lessons offer basic step, male/female turns, belly roll, circle pivot, stutter step, boogie walk, kick back (with variations), male/female lead steps, mirror patterns, various pivots and tips, technique and style. They also include rhythm classes during each session.

Wes has been teaching shag in the Triangle and in Eastern North Carolina for over 22 years. Wes and Sandra had been teaching together in the Triangle at Loafers Beach Club in Raleigh NC for 12 years and also at The Scoreboard in Pittsboro, NC for a number of years at the time of Sandra's death. Both were current members of the Competitive Shagger's Association (CSA) and  completed a term on the CSA Board of Directors, as of December 2000. Sandra was a member of the Capital Area Shag Club, Eno Beach Shag Club, Chatham Area Shag Association, Sanford Area Shag Club and Corporate sponsors of the Junior Shag Association which Wes remains active in all of the above.

Wes has been active in shag since 1979 and he and Sandra had been competing together since 1991. Wes and Sandra competed in the professional division of the Competitive Shag Association. In November 1999 Wes was inducted into the National Association of Living Legends of Dance.

Sandra learned to shag the hard way and it taught her how to teach.  She was an excellent shag instructor and was very dear to so many.  Rest in peace my friend.

THANKS TO ALL THAT SUPPORTED THE FIRST ANNUAL SANDRA MAY BOOGIE SHOES WEEKEND CLASSIC AT LOAFERS BEACH CLUB.
